Fledgling Swan Hill Dragway played host to the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car series for the first time, and the bumper crowd was delivered an outstanding show of nitro funny car racing.
The event would be Swan Hill Dragway’s first major event in their short history, and despite temperatures closing in on the 40 degree mark and dusty conditions with most of the region in drought, the dragway’s staff did an outstanding job of keeping the racing surface up to a standard that saw some ripping five second nitro racing.
Rick Gauci went three for three to win the event in Nitro Express, Justin Walshe snatched second in Terminator and Josh Leahy – who had a wall scraping final in The Bandit against Nitro Express – still ran third. The Bandit also set low ET of the event with a 5.66 off the trailer in round one.
We also saw father and daughter Anthony and Emma Begley face off for the first time in the third round. Dad dropped a 5.69 to take the win light in the family duel.
