Ipswich’s own Luke Crowley recently made drag racing history and he is looking to smash more records at the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, June 6-9 at Willowbank Raceway.

Rachelle Splatt’s team had a few gremlins holding on to her Gulf Western Oil Top Fuel dragster recently at Sydney, but Australia’s ‘Queen of Speed’ found the positives as she prepares for the Winternationals in June. Splatt’s pre-event schedule was busy, with a display at Davis Distribution in Cameron Park, NSW that featured not only Splatt’s dragster, but also the D&D Land Speed Car Splatt will co-drive next year with Gemma Dunn at South Australia’s Lake Eyre. “While ‘the salt’ is certainly calling, we were pleased to welcome Gemma’s brothers Kurt Dunn and Mark Dunn as part of our Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder event crew,” Splatt said. “The weekend was all about Top Fuel drag racing and as always, we gave it everything we’ve got.” The team decided to skip Saturday morning’s test session, with their limited resources best put into the three race rounds. Drag News Magazine Subscriptions from $14.95 – click here “In round one, we dropped a cylinder straight off the line and another in the second half of the pass, running a 4.15 second ET at 295 miles per hour – thankfully nothing was damaged on the run,” Splatt said. “We had had the same thing happen on our last run at the Winternationals last year with an electrical issue, so we changed the points box and while in round two we broke a blower belt on the hit and in round three had tyre shake 100 feet into the run, we left on all cylinders so are confident that the electrical issue has now been solved which is great news.” Splatt and crew serviced the car on Sunday before handing it over to Hozzi Transport to return it back to her Dad’s place in Brisbane, ready for her to visit in a few weeks to unpack for the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals. – Rachelle Splatt Racing Media Release
As Team Bray Racing continues to come to grips with new transmission set-ups, the Brisbane-based team enjoyed a solid outing at Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder at Sydney Dragway.
Scott MacLean will return to the 400 Thunder Pro Slammer series at the upcoming Gulf Western Oil Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway.
For Jason Hedges, a career best third place in the 400 Thunder Pro Stock Championship for 2017-18 was a sign of more good things to come.
A ray of hope remains for John Zappia in the 2018/19 400 Thunder Pro Slammer championship after he won Nitro Thunder at Sydney Dragway on Saturday.
One of the last remaining pro barriers was finally cracked at Sydney Dragway on May 4, 2019 when Queensland’s Luke Crowley recorded the first six second pass by a Pro Bike in Australia.
The Mega Fuels team experienced success all round at Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder, with a win and two runner ups for the team’s three cars.
