Last weekend Sydney Dragway played host to the Nitto Performance Engineering GT-R Festival backed up by the first Motive Live horsepower party – so Drag News Magazine went a long for a look.
The Nissan GT-R etched itself in Australian motorsport history or infamy when those Godzilla R32s terrorised the Australian Touring Car Championship. Today the GT-R is just as popular, and you would be hard-pressed to find a quicker out-of-the-box production car than the current R35 spec models.
The day of pit activities included a giant show and shine, motorkhana, and trade alley display amongst other events before drag racing kicked off in the afternoon.
Unfortunately a rain squall pushed back the start time, but the track was dried and racing was under way.
The headline Pro Radial class featured the titanic heavyweight match up between Robert Marjan’s [JUNII], Anthony Maatouk’s [KING32] and CV Performance’s [RH7GTR]. All racers lock and loaded to break the Street GT-R World Record currently held by Maatouk’s weapon.
As featured in this article we posted earlier {http://dragnews.com.au/news-all/local-news/3984-junii-thumps-the-street-gt-r-world-record-video.html} we know Marjan took the cash and the record.
[RH7GTR] was debuting a new combo and still ran a 7.82 PB.
With the front wheel lifting [KING32] was on a record breaking run before the tailshaft cried enough in a shower of sparks.
All the class winners were as follows:
R35 Pro – Chris Skinner
R35 Tuner – George Tsitos
Stock Class – Adam Trethowan
Single Turbo – Beau Von Stieglitz
Super Stret – Amer Khallouf
RH9 – Alex Rusu
Low Mount – Ben Sultana
Pro Radial – Robert Marjan
With the GT-R Festival dusted, the promoters Motive DVD organised a horsepower party known as Motive Live, the first in what could be a popular new series of events. As a DJ revved up the pits, on track was a free for all – from streeters to Paul Mouhayet’s twin turbo monster.
Grudge Kings hosted a lights out exhibition won by Joe Sabato.
PAC Performance landed the Mazda6 after its tour of the Americas, and despite a cold track punched out a pedalling 6.31 – look out rotary world.
The track through a few curve balls at most racers, the Moits Mustang did slip and slide to a 5.88 and a few other PBs were made for those who figured it out in the crisp air.
The night was finished off with a blown burnout invitational.
Check some great photos from the out of the box event. You can see more shots on the Cackling Pipes Facebook Page
