Paul Mouhayet put on the big shoes last weekend at Willowbank Raceway and proceeded to stomp the record for the quickest turbo powered pass in Australia – 5.930 at 252mph.
The Moits Outlaw 10.5 Mustang was at the track competing at the Lights Out grudge race the night before and stayed over for some testing the next day, and Mouhayet did away with the 10.5 slicks for this occasion to chase the outright record.
The previous mark was 5.95 held by the GAS Motorsport Mustang of Zoran Gajic.
It was not all smiles for Mouhayet on the run, the “mere” 252mph trap speed was attributed to the front universal exploding – similar to what Daniel Gregorini experienced at the Winternationals – with shrapnel from the broken driveline impacting Mouhayet on the leg. Fortunately Mouhayet only sustained some bruising and minor lacerations in what could of been a much more serious incident.
Despite the feat, the Moits team still plan to go back to the 10.5’s with this car while their actual big tyre car sits idle overseas waiting for a class to race in Australia.
