Round two of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship headed to the regional city of Mildura with six ground-pounding Top Fuel Dragsters to take on a brand-new challenge – racing their 11,000hp machines over the eighth mile – the first time the shorter distance has been used in championship history.
The Burson Top Fuel Championship round at Mildura’s Sunset Strip was one for the locals – both the capacity crowd that filled the venue, as well as the giant smile of round winner and local gun, Phil Lamattina.
The first appearance of Top Fuel dragsters at Mildura in regional Victoria was a story of speed but no success for Phil Read and the Hydraulink team.
Following his MacTrack Westernationals victory, Top Sportsman racer Alby Bakranich is third in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series title standings for his bracket and leading the points in the local WA Drag Racing Championship.
A thrilling side-by-side Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship B-Final between PremiAir Hire Racing’s Peter Xiberras and Damien Harris had a packed crowd at Mildura’s Sunset Strip on tenterhooks Sunday evening, with a review of the footage and data required to decide the winner.
Mildura hometown hero Phil Lamattina conquered all on Sunday night, taking out round two of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Champion. The final was a cracker against Wayne Newby, with the Carrot King going to the stripe by the barest of margins, 3.19 to 3.20.
The atmosphere was electric at Mildura’s Sunset Strip, with many of the big crowd experiencing Top Fuel for the first time. Conditions though were challenging for crew chiefs, and there will be some late night head scratching to come up with a tuning combination to battle the unique Mildura track on race day at round two of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship.
A runner-up result at the Westernationals has set up a classic championship fight for John Zappia and the Dananni Hotshots/Tony’s Auto Wreckers Monaro Top Doorslammer.
The BROMOD Camaro now has a sister, with Stew Walsh wetting the appetite of followers after showing off his latest Camaro creation – dubbed Robyn’s Kitchen.
Daniel Gregorini has a first Top Doorslammer national championship in his sights after winning the Westernationals at Perth Motorplex on Sunday.
Along with plenty of winning performances, five competitors at the 51st annual MacTrack Westernationals delivered no less than seven new national records on March 6, 2022.
Aero Racing presented for the 2022 Westernationals in Perth Western Australia this last weekend with their new Hemi powered Top Alcohol Altered.
Sydney Dragway’s Day of the Drags event will see the Nitro Hot Rod debut for Queensland’s Brandon Gosbell, getting behind the wheel of “Agro”. Having become a regular behind the wheel of “King Kong” in the ever popular Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny car series, the March 12th event will be Brandon’s first taste of side by side fuel altered action up against the famous “Psycho” of Graeme and Wendy Cowin
