John Zappia’s season took a turn for the better on Saturday night at Perth Motorplex with a runner up result at the 49th annual Goldenstates, the second round of the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship.

The inaugural National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) event was an ambitious challenge for both the promoter and the brand new Dragway At The Bend facility, and that was before the weather gods threw in added complications.
The 49th annual Goldenstates at the Perth Motorplex hosting the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, Nitro Funny Car, Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel Motorcycle and Pro Alcohol, delivered plenty of exciting performances at the weekend, including five new national records.
Two-time Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series Super Sedan Australian Champion Martin Mirco went all the way to the finals at the Goldenstates at the weekend, and now has South Coast Nationals victory in his sights this weekend (December 2/3).
Hydraulink Jim Read Racing is hoping that this Saturday’s Top Fuel Xmas Showdown at Sydney Dragway will ring in not only the Christmas season, but also redemption for the team following a challenging season opener.
Rob Campisi was an enthusiastic FuelTech Pro Mod runner-up at the Sydney Nationals and is now ready to lay it all on the line for the Top Fuel Christmas Showdown event on Saturday, December 2, at Sydney Dragway.
Due to further works required on the new concrete racing surface at Willowbank Raceway, the return to racing at the venue has been moved into the new year.
