The first Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series event of the new season enjoyed a successful opening day at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip on Friday (14 July), with the qualifying and racing action set to continue today (Saturday 15 July).
The final round of the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series had extra prestige for event and championship winners, as it would be the last of its name with the new National Drag Racing Series taking over from next season.
In front of a packed house, the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship and Australian Drag Racing Championship have celebrated not only event winners for Nitro Up North, but also the season Champions for Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip this evening.
Three rounds of racing are all that now separates the racers of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship as well as the ADRC Top Doorslammer and ADRC Top Fuel Motorcycle titles.
The 55th Gulf Western Oil Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway ended an era, the event being the swan song for the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series, with the national championship now unified under the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) banner.

Day 3 of the 55th Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, and it is getting serious on track with the conclusion of qualifying for the professional and remaining sportsman sportsman classes, along with the first elimination rounds for other sportsman racers.
Day two of the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals was a beauty with clear skies and pristine track conditions. The Professional classes in the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series were on track for the first time with two qualifying sessions for most.
The 55th edition of the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals is off and running under clear skies in mild conditions. Day 1 featured the first qualifying rounds for sportsman racers before they finish qualifying on Friday.
