The 50th running of the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals has been cut short by rain on finals day, however not before Ben Bray of the Gulf Western Oil-supported Team Bray Racing set the second-best Pro Slammer qualifying time and took out second in the 400 Thunder National Pro Slammer Championship.

If there was one racer to leave the 2017 Gulf Western Oil Winternationals with a new fan club it was Top Bike rider Damian Muscat.

Australian drag racing fans got to witness another 4.4 second run during qualifying for the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals but an unfortunate rain shower with one pass remaining in Top Fuel’s final qualifying session brought an end to the night.

The new structure will be headed by a General Manager in a leaner organisation. Current Competition Manager Brett Stevens has been appointed as the acting General Manager to commence in June. Grant Goodall the current CEO has agreed to join the ANDRA Board as an Independent Director, commencing in July. ANDRA chairman Terry Jongen said: “The streamlining of ANDRA will allow it to concentrate on member services. The Board appreciate that Grant has recommended his own position be made redundant in the best interests of the sport and ANDRA. Grant has been an excellent contributor as the CEO of ANDRA and has achieved a great deal given the role was part-time and in a difficult period. “The Board look forward to Grant’s continuing contributions as a Director and a mark that there is confidence in going forward with the sport and ANDRA into the future. ANDRA remains a not for profit member based organisation.”

The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car stable stretched their legs in a big way recently at Sydney Dragway, taking advantage of some prime conditions and the new track surface to lay down some astonishingly quick numbers.

Peter Xiberras returned to the track last week for the first time since a crash at Sydney Dragway in January.

Drag racing fans were treated to a mix of quick times and mechanical gremlins as Top End drivers continued their shakedown to the 2017 Top End season.

Kelly Bettes started her licensing procedure in the Lamattina Top Fuel Racing dragster last weekend at Sydney Dragway ambitiously hoping to make the Winternationals. Unfortunately mechanical gremilins have hindered that plan, but Bettes proved a natural behind the wheel.

The Atura Blacktown NSW Championship Series at Sydney Dragway has reached its fourth round before going into a Winter break. Despite the ultimate in weather conditions, racing was adversely effected due to a high number of oil downs.
