The fight for the 2021/2022 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series is officially underway with round one successfully completed at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip this weekend.

The newly launched Australian Drag Racing Championship has burst into life at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip this evening, with Western Australia’s John Zappia leading Top Doorslammer qualifying after three sessions.

Racers from around Australia have put on a show in Darwin as they have attempted to stake their claim for top qualifying honours across the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip’s Top End Nationals this evening, ahead of Saturday’s final qualifying and racing.

The first round of Heathcote Park Raceway’s inaugural VIC/SA Sportsman Series was unfortunately struck down by tricky weather conditions and unable to be run to its completion, but we still have a few photos of the action to show you.

Fitting a two day event into one day was always going to be a struggle, and with further delays due to fog, a late night finish was inevitable. While the wait was tough on Sportsman racers, with such a monster crowd in the house, the professional show had to take priority for the spectators.

In this super-extended 400 Thunder Championship season, Pro Bike’s Glenn Wooster continued his domination in the category with another event win and a virtually untouchable championship lead.
