Zap goes 5.80

John Zappia was crowned 2009/2010 ANDRA Top Doorslammer Champion last weekend, after he successfully defended his back to back title by winning the final of the Castrol EDGE Winternationals against point’s leader Robin Judd, with a 5.817 @ 246.93 mph and reset the National Record with a blistering 5.805 @ 246.08 in his semi-final win against Ben Bray.

WA wins Pro Cup for first time

The West Australian division secured the ANDRA Professional Racers Cup for the very first time since its inception in 1975. The ANDRA ‘Pro Cup’ recognises the most successful ANDRA Division in the six ANDRA Pro Series categories contested at the Australian Nationals, the Summernationals and the season ending Winternationals. One point is awarded for each elimination round win at those events. Led by strong performances by Martin Stamatis (Top Fuel), John Zappia and Robin Judd (Top Doorslammer) the WA division secured its historic first ever win with a one point victory over the ultra strong South Queensland division who tied in second place with their arch rivals New South Wales. ANDRA Professional Racers Cup    Western Australia 37 South Queensland  36 New South Wales  36  Victoria/Tasmania  26  Northern Territory  17  South Australia  11  The WA Division will commence the defense of the ANDRA Pro Cup at the Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway in September.

Shannons shootout goes to the wire

After three rounds, over six months, in three separate States, the Shannons Tri State Top Fuel Shootout winner has been crowned.  Perth’s Martin Stamatis in his Billview Dragster grabbed the title, along with a $25,000 cheque courtesy of Shannons Insurance.

Grand Slam for Martin Stamatis and JRR team

In one of the closest season finishes for Top Fuel in 2010, Martin Stamatis has won the Australian Top Fuel Championship, and Phil Read has finished runner-up at this year’s season ending Winternationals held at Willowbank Raceway June 10-13.
