Since they burst onto the scene in 1996, Top Doorslammers have held a special place in the hearts of Australian drag racing fans for their wild antics and brutal speed.
Some creative thinking and a bunch of pent-up drag racing energy created the first ever Junga Bunga’s No Prep Cash Days event at Warwick Dragway on Saturday, July 25.
Willowbank Raceway continues to be Australia’s hub of drag racing activity, with the Kenda Tires 660 Drag Radial Series delivering up an event they’ve called the Expression Session – three huge days of radial tyre testing.
Competition drag racing made a return to Australia with the fourth round of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships at Willowbank Raceway taking place on July 11, 2020.
With Sydney Dragway and Calder Park undergoing renovations and Perth Motorplex closed for the winter, Willowbank Raceway is virtually the only major quarter-mile facility operating right now in Australia, and racers have been turning out in droves to test and tune.
With very little in the way of on-track action right now, Jim Read Racing stepped up to the plate for drag racing fans on Wednesday night by live streaming a warm-up and then answering questions.
There is some light starting to shine at the end of the tunnel for Australian drag racing, with Willowbank Raceway resuming events with a test and tune.
With no racing on, and everything just a bit quiet, we will look back at some old events in photos. Today we go back to the first major event at Sydney Dragway, then called Western Sydney International Dragway.
